A Famil
y-owned Business
Known throughout Nevada County as Ridge Feed and The Farm Store, Simply Country has been providing livestock and pet supplies to the community for over 50 years. In 1964 Lloyd Chittock purchased Ridge Feed and Supply, on Ridge Road in Grass Valley, and began the Chittock legacy. His son, Curt bought Ridge Feed in 1987 and expanded the business with the purchase of The Farm Store, in Penn Valley, in 1994.
Today, you will see Lloyd’s grandchildren, Nic Chittock and Chana Chittock, overseeing the day to day at both stores. “It’s hard to put in to words what it means to be the third generation in this business,” said Nic. “I love what I do. I think a lot about the past, my memories as a kid, what my grandpa did, and how far we’ve come.”
Simply Country in theĀ
Community
From the time Lloyd bought the store on Ridge Road, the Chittock family and Simply Country have been buyers for the Junior Livestock Auction. They are also pleased to sponsor the Hay Bucking Contest at the Nevada County Fair each year. You’ll see Curt moving straw for the Nevada City Classic Bike Race as well as the Soap Box Derby.
Simply Country enjoys seeing familiar faces and many customers have been coming to the store for decades. The area has changed over time and the business reflects that. Originally, Ridge Feed and Supply sold mostly livestock feed and hay. Today, pet foods, wild bird seed, organic and non-GMO feeds are the main sellers at both stores.
“In the end, the business is great, but the people we interact with are greater,” said Curt. “My dad would agree that success is having good relationships.”
Simply Country is a name that comprises everything these stores have to offer, from pet food, to wildlife feed, to livestock supplies and farm equipment.
